1. archetypes - forms
2. Demiurge - divine mind
3. receptacle (matter) - formless and shapeless
n the Demiurge takes the formless receptacle and shapes it into a world of particulars using the forms as the archetypes
n a “necessity” or inertia in the receptacle resists the forms (explanation of the disorder found in the world)
